About

I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist, having completed all course requirements and passing the nationally recognized board test administered by ALTA. ALTA, the Academic Language Therapy Association, is the premier national organization certifying dyslexia professionals. I graduated from East Texas State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Deaf Education and a minor in Speech Pathology. I had the privilege of being able to homeschool my son and daughter throughout their education. Now with both having graduated college, I began pursuing further education to become a certified Academic Language therapist in the summer of 2017. My course of training is with Take Flight, a nationally recognized, comprehensive, multi-sensory intervention for students with dyslexic tendencies developed at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. I completed two years of training through McKinney Christian Academy. I have seen the Take Flight program benefit students of all ages who struggle with varying reading difficulties. Many of my students have experienced frustration and defeat in learning to read. Some have been treated with a lack of sensitivity and understanding of their unique challenges by an educational system not equipped to address their specific needs. My one-on-one relaxed environment provides a place to develop confidence and skills that will transfer to improved reading, spelling and comprehension. I am excited to offer my therapy services to any struggling reader needing intervention — and I have a special place in my heart for local homeschooling families. A specific diagnosis of dyslexia is not needed to begin. I would love to talk more about your unique situation and see if the Take Flight curriculum might be a good fit for your student.
